What is a thyroid lobectomy?

The thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland at the front of the neck with a left and right lobe. A lobectomy removes only the lobe with the problem and leaves the other side working. Many patients do not need thyroid hormone pills afterward, though some do; your blood work will tell.
